Meet Dr. Kelsey Whitaker
Growing up in Zephyrhills, Dr. Whitaker always knew she wanted to be a doctor, but didn’t have her sights on chiropractic as she wasn’t exposed to it. That is until her mother got severely sick with muscle spasms and had to go to the emergency room. Despite receiving medical treatment, Dr. Whitaker’s mother didn’t get better. Her father picked up her mother as she couldn’t walk, and took her to see the chiropractor.
Witnessing the Powerful Effects of Chiropractic
Dr. Whitaker’s mother was there for two hours and walked out! That profound experience prompted her to want to become a chiropractor. At the time, she was a waitress and started getting chiropractic to address aches and pains.
“My chiropractor recommended that I become a chiropractor.” Shortly after Dr. Whitaker got married, the chiropractor passed away. Then Dr. Whitaker got referred to Dr. Tom. After being under his care, Dr. Tom told Dr. Whitaker that he thought she would make a good chiropractor. “I said, ‘well, I guess that’s what I’m going to do!'”
As Dr. Whitaker didn’t want to prescribe medication, she was happy to have found a conservative, drug-free form of health care to practice.
Chiropractic Education
At the time, Dr. Whitaker had two young children. She started her education at Palmer Chiropractic College in Florida in 2016 and graduated in 2019.
“While at Palmer one of her instructors was a pathologist who was also very naturopathically inclined. Working with the MD was what prompted Dr. Whitaker’s interest in diagnosis, which got her into the Functional Medicine aspect of chiropractic.
A Passion for Helping Kids and Families
Dr. Whitaker also had a mentor at Palmer who exposed her to family chiropractic care. “We got to treat many families, young children and pregnant patients, along with everyone else. That’s where I developed my passion for families and babies and treating them because they get better much quicker.”
Dr. Whitaker is also Webster certified through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA). She also stays up to date on the latest in chiropractic through research related to pediatric and prenatal chiropractic.
